Magento

It is generally cheaper to use an off the shelf shopping cart system for an ecommerce website. This means you (the client) are not paying for functionality to be developed that is already there.

Our current preferred shopping cart system is the award winning Magento Ecommerce System. This is a relatively new product, but it is swiftly developing a reputation as the leading Open Source ecommerce platform. Our experience of using Magento in recent months has demonstrated to us that it really is a quality system delivering features to match top-end (and very expensive) alternatives.

• it is free to use
• there is a large and active developer community committed to enhancing and supporting the product

ekmPowershop

ekmPowershop is a hosted ecommerce solution. If you are a small business looking for a low cost way to start trading online this would be an ideal system to use. It doesn't have the flexibility or range of features that a system like Magento provides, but sometimes the simple solution is the most effective solution.

Integration with Third Party Systems

It is often a requirement for an ecommerce website to be able to talk to an existing back-office system. We have implemented many projects in which a website integrates with other systems. An example of this would be a Sage Line 50 accounting system communicating with a website to share product information, orders and customer details.
